Southdale re-brand helps to keep Yorkshire Air Ambulance flying high

“We could not think of a more worthwhile Yorkshire cause to support and are delighted that Southdale can back Yorkshire Air Ambulance by recycling our old safety clothing. As a company we are also keen to be as environmentally conscientious as possible, so donating our clothing to the YAA benefits both parties.”

The introduction of a new look brand for Halifax-based construction firm, Southdale, which specialises in social and residential housing and public build projects, has resulted in an unexpected benefit for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) charity.

Over 20 bags of old health and safety wear, fleeces and work clothing which carries the company’s former brand and was used on its building sites, will be recycled to help raise some much-needed funds for the lifesaving charity.

YAA’s recycling scheme has been running throughout Yorkshire for over five years -  encouraging supporters to donate unused clothing, textiles and shoes to the charity.

The charity works very closely with its official recycling partner, Bag It Up Ltd, which coordinates and undertakes all of the recycling collections on its behalf. All donations are then sold overseas where the demand for quality second-hand clothing is much greater. Annually, the YAA’s recycling scheme can generate up to £250,000 for the charity.

Commenting on the donation, Abby McClymont, marketing and communications coordinator for the YAA, said: “We’d like to extend our grateful thanks to Southdale for their donation of unwanted clothing. We rely heavily on donations from individuals, groups and businesses such as Southdale to help with our running costs of £7,200 per day. Donations don’t always have to come in a financial form as Southdale have proved – a significant donation to our recycling scheme such as this can be a great boost for us too!”

Southdale, which introduced a new look brand late last year, were keen to recycle the old clothing rather than throw it away. The company’s estimating manager, Ian Hebblethwaite and estimator, Matt Barmby, came up with the idea to recycle the clothing and coordinated the project.

Ian Hebblethwaite, commented: “We could not think of a more worthwhile Yorkshire cause to support and are delighted that Southdale can back Yorkshire Air Ambulance by recycling our old safety clothing. As a company we are also keen to be as environmentally conscientious as possible, so donating our clothing to the YAA benefits both parties.”
